Situated in the north of the Deux-Sèvres department, the Thouarsais is ideally located between the Loire Valley and the Atlantic coast. The 24 communes offer a varied landscape of agricultural plains, hedged farmland and vineyards. The GR36 and the Vélo Francette, two major national walking and cycling routes, cross the area and allow visitors to discover our natural, historical, cultural and leisure heritage.
Luzay
Luzay, a commune with 620 inhabitants and a surface area of 2090 hectares, lies to the south of Thouars and to the north-east of Saint-Varent, on the catchment area of the Thouaret, a river that flows into the Thouet at Taizé-Maulais, a neighbouring commune.
It merged with the Communauté de Communes du Thouarsais on 1 January 2014. The RD 938 runs through Luzay and is classified as a major road linking Thouars to Niort, while the RD 938 Ter runs from Thouars to Bressuire. The network of local roads and country lanes extends over 31.620 km.
Several villages are scattered throughout the area (Le Chillas, La Coindrie, Thiors, La Roche, Volbine) as well as hamlets (La Malinerie, Parnay and Les Époix).
The town centre is home to the town hall, the school, a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of 200 people, an association hall, a nursery and a leisure room with a capacity of 100 people at Les Brelières. A bread distribution machine was recently installed in the town hall square.
