The Towns of the Area

Situated in the north of the Deux-Sèvres department, the Thouarsais is ideally located between the Loire Valley and the Atlantic coast. The 24 communes offer a varied landscape of agricultural plains, hedged farmland and vineyards. The GR36 and the Vélo Francette, two major national walking and cycling routes, cross the area and allow visitors to discover our natural, historical, cultural and leisure heritage.

Luché Thouarsais

Luché-Thouarsais is a rural commune of 13.46 km² that has grown since the Revolution to between 350 and 540 inhabitants. It has been administered by 15 mayors, landowners and farmers.
The end of the 19th century was a very prosperous period for Luché, with the arrival of the railways and two 6 km-long tracks. The commune had a station and a stop, very important at the time for the link halfway between Thouars and Bressuire.

In 1989, the arrival of the quarry and then of two road hauliers led to a number of investments: a leisure centre, an R.P.I. school, a new town hall, renovation of the old school, a nurse's surgery, village development and the creation of 6 housing estates representing 60 families.
