Welcome to Thouarsais, a region renowned for its vineyards and winemaking tradition. Thanks to its proximity to the Loire Valley, our terroir has proudly held the Anjou and Saumur Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) since 1954—recognitions that highlight our regional expertise and high-quality production.
With a favorable climate and geology, our landscape is ideal for growing vines. Today, more than 20 passionate winegrowers operate across the territory. Many of them welcome visitors for wine tastings, guided tours of their estates, and behind-the-scenes experiences of their craft.
These vineyards, cultivated in optimal conditions, produce wines of rich character—just waiting to be explored on a tour through the Thouarsais countryside.
The Thouarsais Wine Route
Whether you're traveling with friends, family, or as a couple, the Thouarsais Wine Route, stretching across approximately 50 km, is a delightful way to enjoy local wines and learn more about the region’s winemaking culture. Along the route, you’ll find three key interpretation stops that blend education, scenic views, and immersive storytelling.
- Bouillé-Loretz
Set in the heart of the vineyards, a 6 km walking trail is available, punctuated with information panels that explain the vine's life cycle and the winemaking process—developed with input from local winegrowers and experts. - Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay – Belvédère du Puy de Mont
Enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding villages while discovering the exceptional geology and soil diversity of the Thouarsais—elements that give our wines their distinctive character. - Saint-Pierre-à-Champ (Val en Vignes)

Thouars Wine & Terroir Fair
This annual wine fair showcases products from more than 100 independent winegrowers, all AOC-certified, representing diverse wine regions of France—with a strong local presence.
