Château d’Oiron — National Monument Center
Built from the 16th century by the noble Gouffier family, Château d’Oiron now hosts the contemporary art collection "Curios & Mirabilia." This exhibition is inspired by the concept of a cabinet of curiosities, paying homage to Claude Gouffier, Grand Squire of King Henry II, and his legendary art collection.
A Magnificent Setting
The 55-meter-long painting gallery, created between 1546 and 1549, is one of the largest in France and illustrates the ancient tale of the Trojan War.
Look up and admire the ceiling, composed of over 1,600 coffers, the King’s Chamber with its grand golden ceiling, and the geometric-patterned ceiling of the Harlequin Salon.
Guided tours of the château and the contemporary art collection are available upon request at the reception, subject to guide availability.
Alongside the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, Château du Rivau, and the Olivier Debré Contemporary Art Center, Château d’Oiron is part of The Contemporary Route, showcasing artistic creation at the heart of the historic Loire territory.
