The Classification: An Official Quality Guarantee

The Classification: An Official Quality Guarantee

Just like hotels or campgrounds, the star rating for furnished tourist rentals is an official guarantee of service quality and comfort.

  • A national certification managed by the Ministry of Tourism
  • A standard designed to meet customer expectations, including criteria for comfort, equipment, and services
  • A rating scale from 1 to 5 stars that reliably indicates the level of comfort and service
  • Stars are a recognized commercial benchmark internationally

7 Good Reasons to Have Your Rental Classified

  1. Gain Visibility
Stand out from other rentals by offering your guests an official guarantee of quality and comfort. The classification is a great marketing tool.
  2. Reassure Your Guests
This national star rating is trusted by customers both nationally and internationally. It guarantees that your rental meets official quality standards.
  3. Benefit from Increased Promotion
Your property is better promoted by local tourism organizations and their public or private partners.
  4. Access Services and Tools
You can take part in other quality initiatives (like bike-friendly or accessible tourism) and use services provided by tourism development organizations (newsletters, support, etc.).
  5. Pay Less Tax
You benefit from a 50% flat-rate tax deduction on rental income under the micro-enterprise scheme, up to a limit of €77,000.
  6. Simplify Tourist Tax Collection
The tourist tax rate is fixed based on the number of stars your rental has, making it easier to calculate the amount to collect compared to an unclassified rental. It’s clearer for your guests.
  7. Expand Your Customer Base
You can join the National Holiday Voucher Agency (free membership), accept holiday vouchers as payment, and gain access to over 9 million potential customers.

How the Classification Works

The rating has 5 categories, from 1 to 5 stars, and is valid for 5 years. After that period, if you wish, you can apply for a renewal.

The classification grid includes 133 criteria grouped into 3 main sections :

  • Equipment & furnishings
  • Guest services
  • Accessibility and sustainable development
